Chinese equities are riding high on tech euphoria, with the MSCI China outpacing US shares this year. While DeepSeek’s breakthrough is potentially transformative, better earnings and increased policy support are still required to keep the rally going.
Unlike the surge of September that was set off by an apparent policy pivot, this one is rooted in innovation. It’s being driven by excitement around DeepSeek and robotics. Despite US efforts to stymie China’s AI progress, companies have proven that they can compete — often at a fraction of the costs being paid by large American companies — and that the US isn’t the only game in town for artificial intelligence.
