Princess of Wales revealed cancer diagnosis last week while Fergie announced her own skin cancer diagnosis in January

Kate Middleton's diagnosis raises awareness of need for cancer screenings

Fox News medical contributor Dr. Marc Siegel discusses the need for cancer screenings as young as 30 years old after Kate Middleton announced her diagnosis and the rise of measles cases in the U.S.

Sarah Ferguson offered Kate Middleton warm wishes following last week's announcement that the Princess of Wales was diagnosed with cancer.

The Duchess of York, who was previously married to Prince Andrew, was diagnosed with skin cancer in January and fought breast cancer last summer.

"All my thoughts and prayers are with the Princess of Wales as she starts her treatment," Fergie wrote online. "I know she will be surrounded by the love of her family and everyone is praying for the best outcome."

"As someone who has faced ther own battles with cancer in recent months, I am full of admiration for the way she has spoken publicly about her diagnosis and know it will do a tremendous amount of good to raise awareness," the Duchess added.

"I hope she will now be given the time, space privacy to heal."

Ferguson was diagnosed with "malignant melanoma" earlier this year. During the reconstructive surgery following her mastectomy, Ferguson had moles removed, which were then tested. One of the moles was determined to be cancerous.

"She is undergoing further investigations to ensure that this has been caught in the early stages. Clearly, another diagnosis so soon after treatment for breast cancer has been distressing, but the Duchess remains in good spirits," a representative confirmed to Fox News Digital at the time.

In June, Ferguson was diagnosed with an "early form of breast cancer," which had been detected during a routine mammogram screening.

In a video shared Friday, the Princess of Wales revealed that she is battling a form of cancer, and has been undergoing preventative chemotherapy treatment. Kate did not elaborate on the form or extent of the cancer in her video.

"It has been an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family, but I’ve had a fantastic medical team who have taken great care of me, for which I am so grateful," Kate said. "This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family.

"As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment. But, most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be OK."

The Princess of Wales explained that after her abdominal surgery, it was believed her condition was "non-cancerous." However, further testing showed "cancer had been present." She was advised to begin chemotherapy by her medical team.

Middleton has remained out of the public eye since Dec. 25. Buckingham Palace later revealed she had been admitted to a hospital for a planned abdominal surgery on Jan. 17. Since then, she has only been spotted a handful of times, sparking speculation about her whereabouts.

King Charles III was also diagnosed with a form of cancer and is undergoing treatment, Buckingham Palace announced in February. A "separate issue of concern" was identified during Charles' "benign prostate enlargement" procedure at the London Clinic.

"Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer," the palace said in a statement at the time.

The monarch was "advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties" while undergoing a series of "regular treatments," a statement from the palace said. It's unclear what cancer diagnosis Charles received.

Buckingham Palace did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.
