- Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit North Korea to hold talks with its leader, Kim Jong Un, as the two countries increase their cooperation with one another.
- Putin first visited North Korea in 2000, when he met with Kim Jong Il, Kim Jong Un's father. Russia then stood with the U.N. against North Korea's military expansion. Putin's first summit with Kim Jong Un came in 2019.
- North Korea backed Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022, after which time Russia and China both vetoed further sanctions on North Korea, publicly splitting the U.N. Security Council on the issue for the first time.

Putin visits North Korea in the first year of his presidency and holds a summit meeting with Kim Jong Il, the father of the North's current leader. It is Putin's first to North Korea.
