Feb. 6 (UPI) — The sentencing of Lovecraft Country and Creed III actor Jonathan Majors on assault charges has been delayed until April 8 due to an appeal from the actor’s lawyers to vacate the verdict.
In December, Majors was convicted of reckless assault in a March 2023 fight between Majors and his ex-partner Grace Jabbari.
After the verdict, Majors was promptly fired by Disney.
“The evidence presented throughout this trial illustrated a cycle of psychological and emotional abuse, and escalation patterns of coercion far too common across the many intimate partner violence cases we see each and every day,” Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said after Majors was convicted.
Additionally, the Disney film Magazine Dreams, which starred Majors, was pulled as a result of the charges.
On Tuesday, Majors appeared in court via video, where Judge Michael Gaffey reminded him that there was an order of protection barring him from contacting Jabbari.
At sentencing, Majors could face up to a year in jail.
