Prolific Liverpool scorer Mohamed Salah capped an outstanding performance with the final goal in a 3-0 Premier League triumph over Nottingham Forest at the weekend.
The two-time African Footballer of the Year was constantly involved in a victory that lifted the fourth-placed Reds to 23 points, three behind leaders Tottenham Hotspur after 10 rounds.
Here, AFP Sport highlights African headline-makers in the major European leagues:
ENGLAND
MOHAMED SALAH (Liverpool)
Egypt forward and captain Salah capitalised on a misjudgement from Forest goalkeeper Matt Turner to race clear and sidefoot home his eighth league goal of the season.
BRYAN MBEUMO (Brentford)
Cameroon winger Bryan Mbeumo scored his sixth goal of the season as Brentford beat Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge. With Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez joining the attack for a late corner, Neal Maupay led a counter-attack, setting up Mbeumo to seal the win.
SPAIN
MUNIR EL HADDADI (Las Palmas)
Morocco forward Munir was on target for Las Palmas in their 2-1 win at Almeria, opening the scoring with a poacher’s finish. The 28-year old, who came through Barcelona’s youth academy, claimed his first league goal of the season.
ABDUL MUMIN (Rayo Vallecano)
Ghana-born defender Mumin scored his first goal for Vallecano in their 2-2 draw against Real Sociedad. The 25-year-old was quickest to a rebound after a free-kick was saved and smashed the rebound home to open the scoring. The goal made amends for the red card he received against Cadiz in September.
GERMANY
OMAR MARMOUSH/FARES CHAIBI (Eintracht Frankfurt)
Egypt forward Marmoush scored twice in Frankfurt’s 3-3 home draw against Borussia Dortmund to claim his first Bundesliga brace. He converted an early penalty and gave his club a two-goal lead midway through the opening half. After Marmoush missed several chances to complete a hat-trick, Algerian Chaibi put Eintracht 3-2 ahead only for Borussia to equalise again with eight minutes remaining.
FRANCE
LEBO MOTHIBA (Strasbourg)
The South African striker came off the bench to salvage a point for his side in a 1-1 draw at Rennes, halting a three-match losing run for Strasbourg. Mothiba was first to react and bundled home his third goal of the season after Steve Mandanda failed to properly deal with Kevin Gameiro’s long-range shot.
