B-52s to perform at White House state dinner for Australian prime minister

Oct. 23 (UPI) — The B-52s will perform at a state dinner for President Joe Biden and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

The band, known for songs such as “Love Shack,” “Rock Lobster” and “Roam,” will entertain guests at The White House on Wednesday evening.

The news was first reported by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Cindy Wilson, Fred Schneider and Kate Pierson, the founding members of the band, are set to make an appearance at the event.

Despite their official retirement from touring earlier this year, the band conveyed their willingness to take part in occasional special events and has a residency at The Venetian in Las Vegas in 2024.

The new wave band, affectionately referred to as ‘The World’s Greatest Party Band,’ have taken a vocal stance against recent states’ legislative efforts to oppose drag shows and gender-affirming care.

In a statement, they expressed strong condemnation of these bills and pledged their solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community.
