Feb. 18 (UPI) — The Elon Musk-backed AI startup unveiled its latest Grok-3 artificial intelligence chatbot claimed to outperform other U.S. or Chinese competitors.
Grok-3 is an “order of magnitude more capable than Grok 2 in a very short period of time,” Musk stated during a live-streamed event. He added that X users can expect to see improvements “literally every day.”
In December, Musk’s xAI artificial intelligence company founded in 2023 initially rolled out a beta version of its Aurora image generator on Grok 2 capable of producing photo-realistic pictures upon request.
According to the popular independent outlet Artificial Analysis Quality Index, Grok-3 outperforms Google, Anthropic and Meta models, but is behind DeepSeek-R1 and OpenAI’s o3 and its o1 models.
“Something that might take you half an hour or an hour of researching on the web or searching social media, you can just ask it to go do that and come back, and 10 minutes later it’s done an hour’s worth of work to you,” Musk said during an X livestream.
“And maybe better than you could have done it yourself,” he added.
On Monday, Musk described Grok as a “maximally truth-seeking AI, even if that truth is sometimes at odds with what is politically correct.”
While OpenAI’s GPT-4o runs $200 a month, Premium+ X subscribers who pay $22 a month currently can utilize the new tool.
Last year, a handful of secretaries of state called on Musk to alter Grok after it gave out false election information to users throughout the country.
