Aug. 2 (UPI) — Federal agents executed a search warrant on World Wrestling Entertainment Executive Chairman Vince McMahon in July, according to a Security and Exchange Commission filing.
“We continue to fully cooperate with any investigation. Outside of what we are not going to comment on any legal matter,” said CEO Nick Khan.
According to the company, the warrant was executed on July 17 and McMahon has been on leave since July 21 while “undergoing major spinal surgery.”
“As previously disclosed on June 17, 2022, a Special Commitee of the Board of Directors was formed on June 15, 2022, to investigate allegations of misconduct by Vince McMahon. As previously disclosed, the Special Committee investigation was competed during the fourth quarter of 2022. However, related government investigations remain ongoing,” the WWE said in its filing.
The WWE said it “has received voluntary and compulsory legal demands for documents, including from federal law enforcement and regulatory agencies, concerning the investigation and related subject matters.”
The company said no charges have been filed against McMahon.
The WWE said it has spent $5.3 million and $7.1 million on an investigation by a committee created by the company.
“In 2022, WWE formed a special committee to review allegations of misconduct against me. That review was concluded in November 2022 following an extensive investigation,” McMahon said in a statement.
McMahon said he will reimburse the company for those expenses.
“To date, Mr. McMahon has paid approximately $17.4 million to reimburse the company for costs that have been incurred and paid by the company,” the WWE said in its filing.
Last year, McMahon stepped away from WWE amid allegations of sexual misconduct and hush money payments but returned in January.
“I have always denied any intentional wrongdoing and continue to do so. I am confident that the government’s investigation will be resolved without any findings of wrongdoing,” McMahon said.
