Feb. 3 (UPI) — At least one person was killed Monday in an explosion at a high-rise apartment complex in northwestern Moscow, authorities said.
The State Investigative Directorate of the Russian Investigative Committee for Moscow said on its Telegram account that the explosion occurred in the lobby of a residential building on Aviatsionnaya Street.
A criminal case has been opened, it said.
A video of the scene posted to its Telegram account shows glass shards littering the front of the building. Inside, debris covers the tiled floor. A segment of the ceiling appears to have been torn away by the blast.
Russian state-run TASS reported that at least one person was killed and four others were injured. A response team source told the media outlet that the blast was caused by an unidentified device planted in the elevator.
Andrew Aleksandrovich Strizhov, head of Moscow’s Main Investigation Department, was en route to the scene, his office said.
This is a developing story.
