New trial date set for Marvel actor Jonathan Majors’ domestic violence case

Aug. 3 (UPI) — Jonathan Majors, the actor geared up to be the primary villain for the current phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, had a new trial date set in his domestic violence case.

Majors, 33, was arrested in New York City in March on allegations he assaulted his ex-girlfriend. He pleaded not guilty to charges of misdemeanor assault, aggravated harassment, attempted assault and harassment. A charge of strangulation was later dropped.

The actor appeared as the character He Who Remains in the first season of Marvel’s Loki and as other iterations of the same character, the villain Kang, in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. He is expected to carry on with the role in the upcoming Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, and Avengers: Secret Wars.

Court records reviewed by UPI show that his trial, which was expected to start Thursday with jury selection, would be delayed until Sept. 6.

“We look forward to presenting the full facts and evidence at trial,” a spokesman for Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office told the New York Daily News.

Majors has been accused of assaulting his 30-year-old ex-girlfriend, who was allegedly left with minor injuries to her head and neck and was taken to an area hospital in stable condition.

“One hundred and thirty-one days ago, authorities unjustly cuffed Jonathan Majors in his own home, hauling him off to jail based on the word of a woman now hunted by the NYPD,” Priya Chaudhry, Majors’ lawyer, said in an emailed statement.

“Bravely, Jonathan Majors laid bare to the NYPD the relentless, alcohol-fueled abuse he suffered at the hands of Grace Jabbari, an enduring nightmare in their relationship. Now, as soon as Jabbari sets foot back in New York, the NYPD stands ready to arrest her.”

Chaudhry claimed Majors remains “the real victim” and that his career has been “torn apart.”
