Sen. Marco Rubio has for over two years of the Russia-Ukraine war been foremost among Washington's cadre of Republican hawks in support of Kiev. He's rallied and voted for steadily expanded US arms deliveries, and more advanced weapons systems for the Zelensky government. He's even in the recent past called for the US to provide Ukraine's air force with fighter jets.
But now with Ukraine in retreat in the wake of the recent Russian takeover of the eastern city of Avdiivka, he's singing a bit of a different tine. In a Sunday Fox News appearance Rubio admitted that he's long understood that Ukraine cannot achieve its stated goals but still "tried not talk about this publicly because I thought it undermined the leverage the Ukraine had." He essentially admitted that the constant Washington refrain on display especially from just before Ukraine's counteroffensive of future 'victory' was always known to be a lie by insiders.
