‘Sitting in Bars with Cake’ adaptation gets photos, premiere date

Aug. 2 (UPI) — Amazon is giving a glimpse of the new film Sitting in Bars with Cake.

Prime Video shared first-look photos and a premiere date for the romantic comedy Wednesday.

Sitting in Bars with Cake is based on the Audrey Shulman book of the same name and is inspired by true events. Shulman wrote the screenplay, with Trish Sie (Pitch Perfect 3) as director.

The new movie follows Jane (Yara Shahidi) and Corinne (Odessa A’zion), 20-something best friends who live in Los Angeles. Corinne (A’zion) convinces Jane (Shahidi), a shy but talented home baker, to commit a year of “cakebarring,” or baking cakes and bringing them to bars with the goal of meeting people and building confidence.

“During their year of ‘cakebarring,’ Corinne receives a life-altering diagnosis, and the pair face a challenge unlike anything they’ve experienced before,” an official synopsis reads.

The film is described as “a moving celebration of female friendship, forging identity and finding joy in the most unexpected places.”

Ron Livingston and Bette Midler also star.
