INDIANAPOLIS, Feb. 28 (UPI) — Unlike many of this year’s top NFL Draft prospects, Texas wide receiver Isaiah Bond plans to run the 40-yard dash. He also made a bold proclamation Friday at the scouting combine by vowing to set a record in the sprint.
Bond will make a run at a new mark Saturday in Indianapolis. Georgia wide receiver Arian Smith and Iowa State cornerback Darien Porter are among the other players expected to clock the fastest times at Lucas Oil Stadium.
‘I’m going to break the record tomorrow, for sure,” Bond told reporters at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis.
“I anticipate running 4.20 or possibly, if I’m feeling great, I might run a 4.1.”
Bond said he previously clocked a 4.23-second 40-yard dash. He said there is “not a receiver out there” that matches his speed.
“I’ve been running my whole life,” Bond said. “I’ve been one of the fastest my whole life. When practice meets preparation, greatness is achieved. I’m going to go out there, trust my training [and] put on a show.”
Bond, who spent his first two years at Alabama, totaled 540 yards and five scores on 34 catches last season for the Longhorns. He totaled 99 catches for 1,428 yards and 10 scores over his three-year collegiate career.
Bond also ran for 101 yards and a score over his 41 appearances with the Crimson Tide and Longhorns.
Former Longhorns wide receiver Xavier Worthy set the record for the fastest 40-yard dash in combine history at this time last year. He clocked a 4.21 and then became a first-round pick of the Kansas City Chiefs.
Bond, a former high school state champion sprinter from Georgia, is expected to be picked in the second round or later in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Fans can watch quarterbacks, wide receivers and running backs do the 40-yard dash and more at 1 p.m. EST Saturday on NFL Network. Defensive backs and tight ends will participate in drills at 3 p.m. Friday on NFL Network.
