Aug. 29 (UPI) — All-NBA guard Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors reached an agreement in principle for a 1-year, $62.6 million contract extension, a league source told UPI on Thursday.

The pact, which has yet to be signed, would keep Curry under contract with the Warriors through 2026-27. His salary that season is set to be the most ever earned by an NBA player in a single year.

Curry, 36, is preparing to play his 16th season with the Western Conference franchise. He entered the league as the No. 7 overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft.

The two-time NBA MVP and four-time champion is set to receive salaries of $55.7 million and $59.6 million over the next two seasons.

Curry averaged 26.4 points, 5.1 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game over 74 starts last season for the Warriors. He averaged 24.8 points, 6.4 assists and 4.7 rebounds through his first 956 NBA appearances.

Curry also is coming off a phenomenal performance at the 2024 Summer Olympics, where he led Team USA to glory with 24 points in a gold medal game victory over France on Aug. 10 in Paris.

The Warriors will face the Sacramento Kings in a preseason game Oct. 9 in Sacramento, Calif. They will face the Portland Trail Blazers in their regular-season opener Oct. 23 in Portland, Ore.
