A Third Leftist Falls Victim To Urban Crime
Within less than two weeks, we've seen the murder of three prominent leftists who valued antiracism over law and order. First, the young tech founder in Baltimore,
Turns out before that black guy murdered the BLM-supporting tech CEO, he raped another woman, after handcuffing and duct taping her and her boyfriend, then slashed their throats and set them on fire.https://t.co/8Wf3yGTlsF

Then, the journalist in Philadelphia,

And now, Ryan Thoresen Carson in Brooklyn.

Safety First
Before we get to the political commentary, a note about personal safety. For those who haven't watched the surveillance footage above (or understandably prefer not to), there are a few things Ryan Carson could have done that would have increased the chances he'd still be alive today.
- For starters, don't be on a street named after Malcom X or Martin Luther King at 4am.
- Don't walk toward trouble. Before the assailant attacks Carson, you can see him attacking another individual or kicking a car, and Carson and his girlfriend start walking toward him. At this point, Carson may have survived by simply by crossing the street.
- Avoid touching trouble. Unless you are forced to defend yourself, do not touch an obviously violent, unstable man. That just escalates the situation. Carson appears to put his hand on his assailant's chest and tell him to "chill" and that does not help the situation. If at this point Carson thought violence was inevitable, he would have been better off taking his jacket off and wrapping it around his forearm as improvised knife shield. But he would of course have been better off not being there or at least crossing the street before engaging with the thug.
The Bankruptcy Of Their Ideology
Friends of Ryan Carson suggested that Carson would have sympathized with his murderer.
“Friends of … Ryan Thoresen Carson say he'd feel sorry for the teenage criminal who stabbed him to death, and would want his killing to be used to further advance left-wing policies.”

In other words, they want to politicize his death. They can’t also ask others not to. pic.twitter.com/spWragqFFG
And other leftists have pushed back (ludicrously) against accusations that their own soft-on-crime policies helped lead to his death. Nathan Robinson here, for example, says leftists' urban crime policy is giving everyone "a good school, good housing", etc.
The "urban crime policy" that leftists support is giving every person a good school, good housing, good food, a good job, good mental healthcare, & a supportive, nurturing community. Are these policies in place? If not, kindly shut up about "leftists killed by their own policies" https://t.co/ESCdcGNMgW

There are two problems with that boil-the-ocean approach. The first is that it's impossible to give someone like Ryan Carson's murderer a "good school" or "good housing", because no school or housing development can be considered good if it includes violent criminals. The second problem is that we know what prevents violent crime and it's not that: it's locking up violent criminals. El Salvador didn't solve its murder problem by giving every murderer a "supportive, nurturing community", but by packing them into prisons.
There's Nothing New About This
We've been here before. Leftists have always been wrong about crime, and when Republicans were smarter, they beat them in elections by hammering them on the issue, as with the late Lee Atwater's classic Willie Horton ad.
If Republicans were smart, they would do the same today.
