House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) on Sunday revealed that Republican lawmakers are ready to pounce on Attorney General Merrick Garland with an impeachment inquiry in light of testimony from IRS whistleblowers.
Last week the House Ways and Means Committee made public transcripts of interviews with two IRS whistleblowers, who claimed that Garland's Department of Justice buried evidence of Hunter Biden's tax crimes, and stopped US Attorney David Weiss from bringing charges against Hunter in two different jurisdictions last year.
According to Rep. Jason Smith (R-MO), Weiss sought to be appointed as a special counsel in the case last year but was denied as well. Garland says it isn't true, so someone is clearly lying.

"We need to get to the facts, and that includes reconciling these clear disparities. U.S. Attorney David Weiss must provide answers to the House Judiciary Committee," tweeted McCarthy. "If the whistleblowers' allegations are true, this will be a significant part of a larger impeachment inquiry into Merrick Garland's weaponization of DOJ."

In a June 7 letter to the House Judiciary Committee Chairman Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), Weiss claimed he had "been granted ultimate authority over this matter, including responsibility for deciding where, when, and whether to file charges and for making decisions necessary to preserve the integrity of the prosecution, consistent with federal law, the Principles of Federal Prosecution, and Departmental regulations."
But in the Friday whistleblower statement, On Oct. 7, 2022, in front of six witnesses, Weiss said he didn't have the authority to charge Hunter in other districts and had applied for special counsel status.
