USA's Kate Douglass wins 200M breaststroke final for first Olympic gold

It's USA's 19th swimming medal overall, and fourth gold

USA's Kate Douglass won her first ever Olympic gold on Thursday in the 200-meter breaststroke final.

The New York native trailed by 0.23 seconds after the first turn, but took the lead at the midway point, and held it by 0.19 seconds at the final turn.

Douglass then separated herself from the back in the final 50 meters, and won 0.36 seconds with a time of 2:19.24.

She was a part of the silver medal 4x100-meter freestyle team earlier in the games, and won bronze in the 200-meter medley in Tokyo three years ago.

It's the fourth gold won by USA swimming in Paris, and the 19th overall.

It's also the second gold won by United States athletes on Thursday, as Simone Biles won the gymnastics all-around earlier in the day for her record sixth gold.

Douglass joins Torri Huske, Katie Ledecky, and the men's 4x100 meter freestyle relay as the gold medal winners in swimming.

The Americans and Australians are both tied at the top with four swimming golds in Paris.
