Jan. 30 (UPI) — The Toronto Blue Jays agreed to a 1-year contract with veteran infielder Justin Turner.
Sources told ESPN, MLB.com and The Athletic about the agreement Tuesday. Turner, 39, played last season for the Boston Red Sox.
The 15-year veteran hit .276 with 23 home runs, 96 RBIs and a career-high 110 strikeouts in 146 games in 2023. Turner signed with the Red Sox last off-season after spending his previous 15 seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The two-time All-Star has a career .288 batting average, with 187 home runs in 1,539 appearances.
Turner hit a career-high .340 in 2014 for the Dodgers. He won a World Series with the franchise in 2020. He won 2017 NLCS MVP honors during that Dodgers postseason run, which ended with a World Series loss.
He will slide into a Blue Jays lineup that includes George Springer, Bo Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
Blue Jays pitchers and catchers will report for spring training Feb. 15 in Dunedin, Fla.
