Nov. 14 (UPI) — New York gets a new U.S. attorney, the Department of Veterans Affairs a new leader and the Supreme Court a new solicitor general under appointments announced by President-elect Donald Trump.

Trump early Thursday evening announced former Securities and Exchange Chairman Jay Clayton as his choice to become the new U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York.

“Jay is a highly respected business leader, counsel and public servant, ” Trump said in a post on Truth Social early Thursday evening.

Trump said Clayton “did an incredibly job” while chairing the SEC during Trump’s first term in office and would be in charge of the Southern New York federal court district that often enforces federal finance laws.

Trump also appointed John Sauer as solicitor general, among several appointments announced Thursday night.

Sauer is an “accomplished, masterful appellate attorney,” Trump said in a statement.

Sauer also successfully argued before the Supreme Court on Trump’s behalf regarding presidential immunity in Trump v. United States earlier this year.

Trump also nominated former congressman Doug Collins to lead the VA and attorney Todd Blanche as deputy attorney general in the Department of Justice.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. also was nominated to be the secretary of Health and Human Services Thursday afternoon.
