Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins will miss the remainder of the NFL season after suffering a torn Achilles tendon, the team confirmed on Monday.

The 35-year-old was carted off during the fourth quarter of the Vikings’ 24-10 win over Green Bay on Sunday.

The Vikings said in a statement that an MRI scan on Monday had confirmed the team’s worst fears of a season-ending injury.

“The timeline and details of his upcoming surgery will be determined this week,” the Vikings said.

Cousins has been a key part of the Vikings’ recent revival, which has included consecutive wins over Chicago, the San Francisco 49ers and Green Bay.

Minnesota head coach Kevin O’Connell said later Monday the team was still mulling how to replace Cousins but hinted the team would bring in a new quarterback.

“Me personally, our whole team, our whole organization, we’re all hurting this morning for Kirk,” O’Connell said.

“Just knowing how much he’s invested into this team, and from a standpoint of his leadership and what he’s meant to every guy in the locker room and really what he’s meant to me since my arrival here.

“We’re going to miss him, there’s no doubt about that.”

Cousins is the second veteran quarterback to suffer a serious Achilles injury this season. New York Jets star Aaron Rodgers was ruled out for the remainder of the season after tearing his Achilles in the opening game of the campaign.
